BrainWaves Living Well: Advancing the Future of Adolescent Mental Health Research

At BrainWaves, we believe that improving adolescent mental health requires a stronger connection between research, policy, and practice.

The BrainWaves Living Well Conference 2026 brought together school leaders, researchers, policymakers and mental health professionals from across the UK to explore the future of adolescent mental health research and the role of collaboration in generating meaningful evidence for change.

Bringing Researchers Together to Shape the Evidence Base

Throughout the day, delegates explored the latest developments in adolescent mental health research, from keynote presentations and panel discussions to opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The conversations highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, bringing together expertise from psychology, education, public health, neuroscience, social sciences and related fields to address the challenges facing young people today.

Explore the BrainWaves Research Platform

The BrainWaves dataset provides researchers with an opportunity to investigate adolescent wellbeing through a large-scale, longitudinal research study.

The platform has been designed to support research into the factors associated with young people’s mental health, including the relationships between wellbeing, educational experiences, social factors and other influences across adolescence.

Researchers can explore opportunities to work with BrainWaves data through our dedicated research portal, which provides information about:

  • The BrainWaves longitudinal dataset and the measures collected
  • Current research opportunities
  • Data access procedures
  • How to apply for access to support new research projects

Turning Research Into Better Support for Schools

For those interested in exploring our data, we’ve recently launched a new Statistics page on the BrainWaves Hub website. This page offers an accessible snapshot of the growing BrainWaves dataset while supporting future research into the factors that influence young people’s wellbeing: Click here to explore our Statistics page.
