Celebrating One Year of BrainWaves: Shining Light on Adolescent Mental Health

This week marks a year since the launch of BrainWaves, a milestone moment that marked the start of a journey towards revolutionising adolescent mental health!

Looking back on the past year, we are extremely proud to share our journey from promise to delivery, celebrating the remarkable milestones achieved collectively while also looking towards the exciting journey that lies ahead.

Reflecting on our promises made back in May 2023, it’s clear that we’ve not only met our commitments but exceeded them. The launch of our educational programme was just the beginning, with sixteen lessons now available and more on the way, reaching over 940 schools and impacting tens of thousands of students.

The overwhelmingly positive feedback, with over 3,000 student evaluations, highlights the programme’s efficacy and the thirst for knowledge and resources in this critical area of health. Plus, we just finished the data collection from our first cohort that promises to further enrich our understanding and capabilities, setting us well on our way to achieving our ambitious target of 50,000 unique participants by 2026.

Looking ahead, the full launch of our main cohort study in November 2024 and the operational success of the BrainWaves’ Informatics Research Hub are pivotal milestones. The hub’s role in securely managing and making available the wealth of data collected will not only fuel future research but also ensure that BrainWaves remains at the forefront of developing cost-effective, evidence-based interventions for adolescent mental health.

At its core, BrainWaves remains focused on creating real-world solutions to the growing problem of adolescent mental health, bridging the gap between education and research. Our commitment to providing a free wellbeing curriculum across Key Stage 3-5, rooted in the latest brain science and pedagogical evidence, has set a new standard in educational resources.

As we celebrate this one-year anniversary, it’s clear that BrainWaves is more than just a study; it’s a vibrant community of educators, researchers, and supporters united in a common goal. The future is bright, and with the continued hard work and dedication of our community, the possibilities are limitless.

Together, we are making a difference in the lives of young people and shaping the future of adolescent mental health research. Thank you for being a part of this remarkable journey.
