Participants in the BrainWaves Cohort study were asked, “How would you describe your attendance at school over the last year?”

The graphs show the distribution of responses to this question about their school attendance, and split by sex, on the first occasion that they completed the BrainWaves Cohort Study questionnaire.

Over three-quarters (75.4%) of respondents felt that their school attendance was Good or Excellent, with a higher percentage of male respondents (80.2%) stating this than female respondents (72.6%).

The BrainWaves Cohort Study has collected responses from over 24,000 people aged 16-18 in schools across the UK, over three time points in 2024 and 2025.
