BrainWaves Living Well 2026 Speaker: FROM ATTENDANCE TO BELONGING
In this session, Alex will introduce the innovative concept of “synchrony” to redefine how schools approach attendance and EBSA. Moving away from punitive measures and high-pressure tactics, Alex will explain how vulnerable students become ‘de-synchronised’ – drifting out of step with the academic rhythms, social circles, and daily routines of school life – and why forcing a sudden return often fails.
By emphasising trusted relationships and rebuilding a student’s sense of belonging and visibility within the school system, Alex will demonstrate how schools can effectively bring lost cohorts back into the system by making them feel seen, wanted, and gradually re-aligned with the school community.
